Washington University's fellowship programs in anesthesiology critical care and surgery critical care provide comprehensive training in a supportive and stimulating environment. Fellows in both programs spend nine months receiving clinical training; the remaining three months can be spent gaining additional clinical experience or pursuing projects in basic or clinical research.
The anesthesiology critical care program is designed for individuals who have successfully completed a four-year continuum in anesthesiology. Surgery critical care trainees must be board eligible in surgery, urology, neurosurgery or obstetrics and gynecology. Both programs are approved by the American College for Graduate Medical Education.
The School of Medicine also offers critical care fellowship programs in pulmonary medicine, pediatrics and neurology/neurosurgery; the institution's breadth of expertise in critical care medicine provides a rich learning environment for all of its critical care fellows.
