The Washington University Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Anesthesia (Department of Pediatric Anesthesia/Pain Management at St. Louis Children's Hospital) is currently accepting applications for 12 or 24 months advanced training in pediatric anesthesia. St. Louis Children's Hospital and Washington University are among the top ranking institutions in education, research, and innovative health care in the United States.
Experience will include a broad and varied didactic and clinical exposure to all surgical specialties including liver, kidney, heart and lung transplantation in one of the country's leading pediatric lung transplantation programs, as well as complex orthopaedic, otolaryngologic, neurosurgical, craniofacial, and plastic and reconstructive procedures. Fellows will be exposed to the intraoperative use of TEE in the delivery of care to patients undergoing repair of complex congenital cardiac lesions. Difficult airway techniques are taught by faculty recognized for their expertise and participation in national programs for teaching pediatric fibreoptic endoscopy (in both the ASA and Society for Pediatric Anesthesia workshops).
Required clinical rotations for fellows include pediatric intensive care, pediatric cardiac anesthesia, and acute and chronic pain management. During the pain rotation, fellows will be instructed in a wide variety of regional pain techniques. In addition, elective time is offered for subspecialty pediatric rotations and/or for training in research methodology with active participation in clinical research activities.
Applicants are required to have completed a CA-3 year in anesthesia and fulfill the requirements for licensure in the state of Missouri. Applications will also be considered for those wishing to commence training during other times of the year.
