Clinical Simulation Center

Emerging computer technology provides educators at Washington University School of Medicine with sophisticated and realistic new tools for teaching clinical care.

One of the most versatile and exciting developments is the Clinical Simulation Center, a novel education and conference center located on the third floor of the South Campus of Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

A key element of the 2,000-square-foot center is its full-scale, interactive human patient simulator. The computer-driven, lifelike mannequin is located in a fully functional operating room where it realistically simulates a human patient, with lifelike problems and responses.

The facility also houses a multimedia education center that provides training in the management of medical situations that occur in the emergency room, the intensive care unit and the operating suite. Live and taped video of simulated events makes review and training available in ways that never have been possible before.
